Job Description

Role Overview To carry out maintenance, repair, modifications and alterations to customer or company owned, leased or operated aircraft, and to fly onboard company aircraft providing technical support at outstations while maintaining the highest possible technical dispatch reliability. Key Responsibilities Maintain the highest possible technical dispatch reliability while assessing the multiple factors surrounding aircraft serviceability. Fly onboard company aircraft and provide technical support at outstations; where a defect occurs in flight, observe and record as much detail as possible. Ensure aircraft maintenance is performed to the highest standards and at all times in compliance with applicable and approved data. Act as the point of contact for each flight and ensure on arrival that the receiving engineer is briefed by both the Captain and the Flying Spanner Engineer on any technical issues from the flight. All defects are recorded by the Captain on the eTL, and events, incidents and pertinent information are recorded via the company reporting system and communicated to the duty Line Manager and/or MOC Manager. Carry out a detailed walk-around inspection of the aircraft down route. In the event of a technical defect down route, contact Bahrain MOC and, where possible, make all attempts to return the aircraft to base using the approved company MEL document. In the event of an AOG down route, serve as point of contact for Bahrain MOC and liaise with local service providers via local DHL personnel for ground support equipment and hangar space if warranted; if the crew leave the airport, remain onsite at the aircraft to assess and plan rectification. Ensure all local airport procedures are complied with during a down-route maintenance event, such as airport CRS procedures, engine running curfews and aircraft towing. In the event of a SAFA inspection down route, inform the MOC and Quality department immediately; record SAFA findings, operational delays and safety events on a company reporting system. Assist in on-the-job training of mechanics and trainees in the performance of their duties. Maintain and update company-issued IT such as iPads and onboard-carried mobile phones. Handle written and verbal shift handover so the succeeding shift has continuity and safety on work in progress or pending, covering aircraft, equipment, personnel and safety. Requisition parts from stores, assure serviceability of parts, complete appropriate tags, return parts to stores and ensure required forms and documents are properly completed. Maintain and manage the electronic technical log (ETL) as an end user, including the procedure to print in the event of ETL failure. Ensure all maintenance-related documentation is properly actioned and completed. Keep up to date on all applicable regulations, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, manufacturers' service letters and other pertinent publications. Complete mandatory quarterly training such as Continuation Training, SFAR 88 fuel tank safety and Human Factors. Ensure safety precautions and safe practices are adhered to by personnel under your direction, reporting any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Production Manager. Report safety risks during flights at outstations through the Trip Reporting and company reporting systems. Ensure company-owned and/or operated maintenance and ground support equipment is operated and maintained in safe, operable condition; document and report all GSE defects to the GSE mechanic. Keep up to date with roster change notifications from the AIMS system, even on days off. Keep all line maintenance areas neat and orderly at all times, and act on behalf of the Line Supervisor or Line Manager as required. Input all relevant aircraft Tech Log and Work Order information, including component changes, into the computerised maintenance program. Analyse and troubleshoot aircraft systems and engines using knowledge from individual aircraft type courses, maintenance manuals and references, and hands-on practical OJT experience. Review fuelling figures published on NMIV and take initial figures to reduce fuelling errors. Complete and submit SM006 Maintenance Feedback Forms for non-safety-related observations on flights and the ramp. Charge oxygen bottles in accordance with Procedure 2.1.64 and complete shop work orders. Prioritise work requirements based on fleet arrivals, departures and scheduled maintenance; monitor progress through the shift, anticipate problems and adjust work or schedule to ensure optimum serviceability at all times, including flying technical support when called upon. Make timely and appropriate decisions based on problem-solving ability and experience, remaining objective and coordinating with relevant departments even under pressure to protect safe on-time performance of the company fleet. Licences & Qualifications Must be a licensed, certifying and company-approved engineer on the principal types operated. Experience Minimum five years' aircraft maintenance experience, excluding apprenticeship or basic training. Completed a minimum of 18 months in the current role. Able to communicate assertively, effectively and diplomatically with flight crew, flight dispatchers, ground handling personnel and senior management as required. Able to analyse and troubleshoot aircraft systems and engines using type course knowledge, maintenance manuals and hands-on OJT experience.
