About the Company The team at the Airbus U.S. manufacturing facilities helps assemble aircraft on two (soon to be three) production lines for the A220 and A320 Family. On the shop floor you will be surrounded by people who are passionate about aviation and skilled in areas such as electrical, structure and quality. On “Airbus Way” you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Role Overview Airbus is looking for a Flight Line Mechanic to join the Mobile manufacturing team. The position is responsible for performing Functional Test Procedures (FTP) and pre- and post-flight inspections, and for preparing built aircraft for test flight and delivery readiness. This includes operating, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and inspecting aircraft systems using approved aircraft data, supporting flight line operations at the Airbus FAL Mobile flight line organisation. Key Responsibilities Perform aircraft system Final Test Procedure tests (FTP), pre- and post-flight check lists and Daily Inspections (DI), and prepare built aircraft for test flight readiness. Learn new tasks and techniques for troubleshooting aircraft systems and supporting flight line operations. Troubleshoot malfunctions, rig, repair and replace aircraft structures, components and aircraft systems of moderate difficulty; maintain and rework aircraft components including landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, ventilation, heating and cooling systems and mechanical and cabin interior components. Service and repair aircraft and prepare documentation in accordance with company procedures and specifications. Perform post-dock maintenance daily check lists, safety and security checks and incoming inspections, and perform day-to-day planned and unplanned aircraft maintenance. Participate actively in the development and improvement of aircraft family system troubleshooting skills. Carry out refuel / defuel, aircraft jacking and towing, and other miscellaneous aircraft services including hydraulic and engine oil servicing and servicing aircraft tyres and struts, handling hazardous material in line with policy. Perform a variety of operations in preparing, sealing and testing, using a thorough knowledge of aircraft sealing techniques and sealant characteristics such as storage, application, tack-free and cure times. Read and interpret approved aircraft diagrams, charts, schematics and maintenance procedures: FTP, WO, AMM, IPC, AWD, SB and CMM. Participate in process improvement, root cause analysis, 5S and all applicable tools for improving workload, quality and safety and reducing cycle time. Participate in the team daily SQCDP project and daily tool / FOD management. Support and train other aircraft technicians with technical knowledge and skills, and maintain a close working relationship with the assigned lead person regarding schedules, priorities, availability of parts, supplies and tools, and special instructions. Use a variety of standard and specialised hand tools, power equipment, measuring devices, test equipment and jigs / fixtures with the associated licence, such as crane, cherry picker, fork lift, lifting platform and loading platform. Requirements Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft-specific tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers and powered and non-powered support equipment. Ability to perform work in confined space areas, at height and in outdoor environmental conditions. Licences & Qualifications Required: valid Airframe and Powerplant License. Experience 3 years minimum aviation experience, preferably in an aviation manufacturing or MRO environment. Prior experience as refuel / defuel, aircraft jack and tow.
