About the Company Joby is developing a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically and carries passengers quietly over congested city streets. The company has been working towards that goal since 2009 and is now in the final stages of certifying its aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch in the United States and Dubai, Joby is scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of its commercial service. Role Overview Joby is seeking an experienced aircraft maintenance leader with extensive experimental and R&D aircraft experience to serve as a Base Supervisor supporting the JAI30 aircraft. The role maintains airworthiness, oversees aircraft maintenance and inspections, and leads onsite maintenance teams during demonstration programmes. The Base Supervisor works closely with the Project Manager and the Aircraft Maintenance Program Manager to coordinate maintenance operations, logistics and site readiness, and contributes to standardised processes and procedures for safe, consistent flight test maintenance. The ideal candidate is safety-driven, highly organised and comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced flight test environment. Frequent domestic travel is required. Key Responsibilities Maintain airworthiness of assigned JAI30 aircraft, including return-to-service approval during flight test operations Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on JAI30 experimental flight test aircraft per company procedures and maintenance manuals Perform aircraft inspections per company procedures and maintenance manuals Remove and replace airframe, powerplant and electrical components per company procedures and maintenance manuals Complete required documentation in accordance with company and FAA procedures Perform launch and recovery of aircraft, including ground operations, observer duties and pre- and post-flight activities Participate in Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) in accordance with company guidelines Maintain and operate ground support equipment Help develop maintenance manuals and supporting documentation for company flight test aircraft Travel domestically and internationally as required to support flight test operations and programmes Observe all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever business is conducted on behalf of the company, and work safely to established procedures Other duties as assigned or required Licences & Qualifications Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate High school diploma or equivalent Desired: FAA Inspection Authorization Experience Two or more years of mechanical and electrical experience 5+ years performing maintenance and inspections on aircraft Desired: flight test maintenance experience Desired: supervisory experience in an aircraft maintenance environment Desired: familiarity with electronic aircraft maintenance management ERP systems Requirements Able to work with electro-mechanical devices, high voltage power systems and electronics equipment; relevant training is provided Able to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents General working knowledge of hand tools and precision measuring equipment Basic computer and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with coworkers; written and verbal communication skills desired Able to work independently and in a team, and to work extended hours as required Willing to travel domestically and internationally at least 50% of the time, with a valid passport and no travel restrictions Read and speak English proficiently What We Offer Compensation is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) Paid time off Healthcare benefits 401(k) plan with a company match Employee stock purchase plan (ESPP) Short-term and long-term disability coverage Life insurance and more Additional Information Physical requirements: able to walk and stand on level and inclined surfaces for extended periods; climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work stands; crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above and below shoulders; and lift, push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
