Role Overview The APG Crew Chief is an aviation maintenance professional ready to step into a leadership role: leading teams, mentoring mechanics, driving production, ensuring FAA compliance and delivering safe, high-quality aircraft back to customers in a fast-paced MRO environment. The Aircraft Maintenance Crew Chief is accountable to the appropriate manager for overseeing the work accomplished by the repair station on specific aircraft programmes, coordinating and issuing specific task assignments and overseeing the timely accomplishment of each task, assuring a high-quality product that meets all applicable company, customer and FAA requirements. Key Responsibilities Train and assist subordinates in the proper work procedures and practices to be followed. Prioritise daily work requirements according to schedule and manpower availability, and assign tasks to qualified mechanics and technicians according to work scope, ensuring all technical instructions, blueprints and specifications are clearly understood. Provide technical assistance to mechanics and technicians on specific task assignments as necessary to assure all maintenance is performed properly, resulting in a high-quality, airworthy product. Indoctrinate new personnel in applicable safety precautions and quality of workmanship standards, and reinforce the highest standards of safety and workmanship from all departmental personnel. Monitor the progress of daily tasks to keep the programme on schedule and detect problems, and document details of tasks that were scheduled and assigned but could not be completed. Work with customers and core team members to discuss workflow, identify areas of concern and formulate strategies to resolve problems that threaten the aircraft schedule. Assure that all maintenance is properly performed and recorded using the proper form and manner, consistent with all applicable company, customer and FAA requirements. Interact with the appropriate manager as necessary to assure adequate coverage and continuity of personnel. Assure the proper tagging and handling of all parts processed, and maintain the preservation of all units and parts during the work process, installation and storage. Monitor housekeeping and safety practices within the hangars and around aircraft, and conduct regular safety meetings covering company safety policies, housekeeping requirements, specific employee responsibilities and current issues. Assure that authorised personnel execute all necessary maintenance entries on maintenance forms and work orders used by the repair station. Use a personal computer to research technical data and parts requirements, and assure that only approved data and parts are used during maintenance. Requirements Ability to read and interpret blueprints, aircraft schematics, Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), General Maintenance Manuals (GMM) and other technical maintenance documentation. Valid Texas driver's licence, required to operate company vehicles and ground support equipment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Willingness to work overtime as required to support operational needs. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organisation. Ability to prioritise multiple tasks, manage competing deadlines and perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Licences & Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. A&P licence desired, or specialised training. Experience Minimum three years of heavy commercial aircraft maintenance experience. Minimum one year of experience as a Lead Mechanic. Preferred: five years minimum experience in heavy commercial maintenance. Additional Information Working environment. Work is performed under the general direction of a supervisor, normally after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures and desired end results, with some opportunity for discretion; assignments are usually reviewed on completion. A moderate level of interpersonal skill is required to maintain effective relationships with co-workers and supervision. The role requires easy mobility around various sections of aircraft and the dexterity to remove and replace parts in a timely manner, mental skills and quickness with the ability to cope with stress and intense effort usually caused by long working hours, and the capacity to gain knowledge by hearing for one's own safety due to the dangers involved. The working environment requires standing 90% of the workday on hard surfaces, the ability to lift 50 lbs and regular attendance.
