About the Company Airbus Helicopters Canada Ltd operates a Transport Canada Civil Aviation approved maintenance organisation and Final Assembly Line at Fort Erie, Ontario, delivering and supporting Airbus helicopters. Role Overview The Quality Engineer, Airworthiness Compliance ensures compliance with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) CAR 571 and 573 regulations for aircraft airworthiness and return to service after maintenance, repair or alterations. The role supports quality inspectors in daily maintenance activities, coordinates aircraft and engine calendar and hourly inspections, repairs, alterations and conformity inspections of aircraft parts, paint and related backshop and MRO activities, and acts as the quality interface between internal and external customers for non-conformance resolution and customer aircraft delivery. Key Responsibilities Airworthiness compliance Represent the Certified Repair Station (CRS) or the TCCA Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) for US aeronautical products maintained under the Canada-United States bilateral agreement, approving aircraft, airframes, engines, propellers and rotors, appliances and component parts for return to service after inspection, maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding or alteration, and making the corresponding maintenance record entries in a content, form and disposition acceptable to the TCCA administrator and to Airbus return-to-service procedures. Compile comprehensive lists of airworthiness directives and alert and optional service bulletins, and document preservation, maintenance or inspections of aircraft, engines, dynamic components, main and tail rotor blades and component changes in the respective component log cards for final aircraft conformity. Issue TCCA Form Ones, conformity inspection records, airworthiness approvals of new products and articles and return to service of inspected products that conform to approved type design requirements and are in a condition for safe operation. Validate inspection and compliance of life-limited and cycle-limited components, airworthiness directives and emergency and alert service bulletins for the applicable airframe, engine and component calendar and hourly inspections under manufacturer-recommended and TCCA / AMM / ICA approved continuous airworthiness inspection programmes. Ensure the state of preservation of airframe and engines is reviewed for correct application and current intervals, and carry calendar maintenance intervals forward. Validate testing of emergency locator transmitters, transponders, altimeters, airspeed indicators, air data computers, static pressure systems and automatic pressure altitude reporting systems in accordance with the applicable TCCA regulations. Witness functional and operational tests, check-outs and adjustments of aircraft radios and navigational instruments. Perform dimensional, functional and operational inspections of aircraft, electrical systems, flight control systems and sub-components using precision inspection tools to determine tolerances and specification limits against manufacturer design data. Perform in-process inspections and approve or reject backshop outputs from electrical, manufacturing, paint and composites to determine serviceability for installation on aircraft. Inspect aluminium, titanium and steel structures for cracks, corrosion, damage and proper assembly, and physically quarantine non-conforming components and assemblies. Inspect and categorise parts as serviceable, repairable or rejected / scrap. Verify the build of aircraft system wiring harnesses, connectors and electrical terminations, including instrument connections, using standard testing devices to confirm instruments and accessories meet design drawing specifications. Carry out receiving and hidden damage inspections of airframe structures and sub-assemblies for defects arising during shipping, receiving or manufacturing. Inspect airframe components for fit, form, function and disposition of articles routed through shop floor control, warehouse, internal shops and suppliers for conformity against approved data. Ensure correct tagging, identification and airworthiness of parts released to airframe, engines and accessories, validating quantity, part number and serial numbers against procurement data. Ensure all aircraft articles carry the required documentation, such as an 8130-3 airworthiness certificate, EASA Form 1, TCCA Form 1 or Certificate of Conformance. Support the Senior Compliance Engineer with applications for TCCA aircraft marks, registration, flight permits and Certificate of Airworthiness. Quality management system support Ensure quality requirements are implemented for engineering tasks such as MRB, drawing review and the Supplemental Type Certificate process with suppliers. Act as quality liaison for Customer and Technical Support regarding aircraft records. Support internal and external audit programmes to fulfil regulatory requirements. Initiate and follow up incident handling in a timely manner, covering the WebTEK dashboard, In Service Incident Reports, Quality Notifications, Quality Incident Reports and non-conformance management. Support analysis and root cause investigation of non-conformities, initiate corrective actions to prevent recurrence and identify and help implement process improvements. Support company key performance indicator objectives using SAP and related tools to measure quality performance and communicate possible process improvements to senior leadership. Help Final Assembly Line technicians achieve their first pass yield KPI targets, and train technicians in root cause and corrective action including the impact of human factors on aircraft quality. Help technicians identify and troubleshoot failures, investigate root causes based on failure modes and implement robust corrective actions. Licences & Qualifications Licence (required): TCCA Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licence. Bachelor's degree in aerospace, aviation or engineering, or equivalent related field experience. Airbus H125, H130 and H135 type rated training. Experience 10 years of related quality inspection experience on aircraft components and systems. In lieu of a degree, 15 years of combined experience in quality assurance and/or as a certificated aviation maintenance technician (AMT) or aircraft maintenance engineer (AME). Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access), Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, SAP, Smartsheet, OnBase and Orion eTechPub. Requirements Ability to interpret technical and regulatory documentation and to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings, reports and test specifications for aircraft airworthiness. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of personnel, including on schedule status, aircraft delivery, documentation and problem resolution. Familiarity with inspection tools, aids and devices used to determine tolerances and specification limits. Experience and flexibility to work in multiple areas, and the ability to interface with external customers on aircraft and aircraft records presentation at delivery.
