Job Description

Role Overview The Aircraft Mechanic performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft, engines, component parts and related equipment at line stations, major stations and shops. Reports to: the Supervisor at stations where assigned, and the Maintenance Manager at lesser stations. Key Responsibilities Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft, engines, component parts and related equipment, as performed at line stations, major stations and shops. Read and understand the current instructions of the applicable manufacturer and company maintenance manuals for the specific operation concerned (FAR 65.81). Remove and replace, repair, rig, inspect and/or test systems or component parts in accordance with approved or accepted data, and sign for the work performed. Work to meet the airworthiness standards of the FAA and the production requirements of the company. Carry out work as assigned by a lead mechanic, maintenance controller and/or manager; assignments may take the form of verbal orders, logbook entries, forms, work documents or non-routine cards. All work and inspections are recorded. Complete a written turnover log recording the status of any uncompleted work; where the station supervisor takes responsibility for the turnover, ensure the Supervisor is made aware of all pertinent details (FAR 121.369(b)(9)). Acquire and maintain an adequate supply of commonly used hand tools; the Director of Maintenance can be consulted for the required tool list. The company supplies all necessary large or specialised tools and test equipment. Requirements Must demonstrate that he/she meets the experience requirements of FAR 65.83. One or more years of heavy transport experience (B747-400). Must have previously performed that particular work on that type of aircraft (FAR 65.81), with the work recorded. Mechanically skilled, and able to read and understand technical manuals.
