Aircraft Maintenance Technician

Job Description

Role Overview The Aircraft Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance, repairs, modifications and other maintenance of aircraft, components and related equipment in accordance with the applicable standards and regulations. The role sits in the Maintenance team and the contract is full time. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, modifications and other maintenance of aircraft, components and related equipment in compliance with 14 CFR, manufacturer specifications, the General Maintenance Manual (GMM), company policies and procedures, and other methods accepted by the FAA and OSHA. Perform maintenance mechanic duties in all areas inside and outside the hangar, as well as at the airport terminal. Troubleshoot all aircraft systems and execute maintenance work orders. Use the tools, equipment and test apparatus needed to complete work in line with accepted industry practice; verify that calibrated tooling is within calibration before use and that materials and parts are serviceable. Verify that each part or component is effective for the aircraft on which it will be installed. Follow the material handling and control procedures specified in the GMM and by equipment manufacturers, and initiate material requests. Evaluate the area and equipment to be used so that safety is not compromised before any maintenance action, applying safety first at all times. Maintain a clean, safe working environment throughout the shift. Update the Supervisor on the progress of work, review paperwork at the end of shift so that all work accomplished is signed for before leaving the maintenance facility, and assist with shift turnover reports per GMM procedures. Complete all internal company forms, maintenance records, documents and work orders, including maintenance computer system transactions such as MEL and DMI entries. Provide coaching and on-the-job training as directed. Adhere to the established work schedule and participate in shift meetings and briefings as required. Submit in writing any suggested changes to operational procedures that would enhance safety and cost-effective aircraft maintenance. Use the company intranet to access and apply the GMM and aircraft manuals, and confirm part effectivity per aircraft. Complete recurrent training, including required FAA AMT training, and keep licences and certifications up to date. Read and acknowledge maintenance newsletters and company emails on a timely basis. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Stable employment history. Must hold and maintain a valid driver's licence and a clean driving record. Must possess the required tools. Able to work both in a team and individually. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups of colleagues. Ability to apply common sense understanding to instructions given in written, oral or diagram form, and to deal with problems involving several variables in standardised situations. Decision-making skills: makes limited decisions and determines the best methods to solve problems by referring to established precedents and policies, with a moderately low decision impact. Preferred: experience using a computer to look up information and input data. Licences & Qualifications FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) licence. Able to pass an FAA-required 10-year work history review and criminal background and fingerprint checks. Willing to submit to and pass FAA and company mandated random drug and alcohol tests. Experience Preferred: previous experience as an A&P mechanic or airline experience. Additional Information Physical demands: able to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms at least 90% of the time; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl up to 60% of the time; lift up to 50 pounds at least 35% of the time; lift or move 75 pounds over 70% of the time; and see well enough to perform work and to spot approaching vehicles, aircraft and machinery. Work environment: work near moving mechanical parts and with fumes or airborne particles over 90% of the time; in high, precarious places up to 50% of the time; around toxic or caustic chemicals up to 30% of the time; and with the risk of electric shock and with explosives up to 10% of the time. Work takes place in outdoor weather conditions inside and outside an open-air hangar and at the airport terminal up to 100% of the time, and the environment can be very loud. Must be able to wear a respirator and protective equipment, which includes keeping facial hair minimal to ensure proper respirator fit under OSHA regulations. Must be able to work nights, evenings, weekends and holidays to support a 24-hour operation. Travel: able to travel up to 20% of the time, including overnight stays.
