Job Description

About the Company RTX is the world's largest aerospace and defence company, where 185,000 people work across three market-leading businesses with world-class operations and investment in research and development. Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionising modern flight for over 100 years. Pratt & Whitney Canada, an RTX company, shapes the future of business, general and regional aviation as well as helicopters and APUs. Pratt & Whitney Canada UK forms part of the Regional Customer Service Centre Network and has a repair centre in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Role Overview This is a hands-on team leader role combining engine technician responsibilities with day-to-day team leadership and operational coordination. The successful candidate will spend roughly 50 per cent of their time on engine maintenance in the engine shop, with very occasional field work, and the remaining 50 per cent leading and supporting a team of 12 engine technicians. As Team Leader the role oversees the day-to-day activities of the team, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards, including reviewing work scopes, monitoring progress and status, allocating and prioritising tasks and ensuring technicians have the support and resources they need. The role also works closely with the MRO Engine Planner so that work scopes stay on track, priorities are managed and engines are completed and released in line with agreed schedules and delivery requirements. Key Responsibilities Ensure all technical documentation is correctly completed before work commences. Ensure the work scope is correctly prepared in line with regulatory, customer and P&WC requirements. Work closely with, and provide cover for, the MRO Engine Repair Planner. Support the UK General Manager in the day-to-day running of events and carry out people management duties including return-to-work interviews, coordinating holiday requests and timesheet approval. Be aware of the commercial aspects of the work requirements and negotiate with the customer as appropriate. Maintain and complete work files and relevant documentation with detailed entries of work performed. Check in and disassemble engines in line with work scope requirements and carry out basic cleaning of components as necessary. Inspect all relevant components and identify items for scrap, rework or refit, interpreting relevant product information. Assemble engines to defined standards, ensuring fit, clearance and modification levels are accurate using appropriate P&WC hand tools and measuring equipment. Update the technical pack accurately throughout the build process and complete and issue engine release certificates on completion of engine maintenance. Constantly seek improvements to turn time and cost reductions. Generate accurate cost estimates and technical reports in adherence to quoted costs, advising the customer of any escalation before estimate values are exceeded. Provide information to the finance department so invoices are generated accurately and issued in line with company targets. Generate good customer communication and issue regular status reports as necessary. Provide support to customer engines in house at Leighton Buzzard and, very occasionally, in the field. Experience Preferred experience with Pratt & Whitney Canada turbofan engines, such as the PW300, PW500, PW600 and PW800. What We Offer Competitive base salary. 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the ability to buy and sell holidays. Employee Assistance Programme. Private medical insurance and a health and wellbeing cash plan. Employee discounts, a pension scheme and discounted gym membership, among other benefits. Additional Information Role types at RTX are classified as onsite (working primarily onsite, including all production and maintenance employees), hybrid (working regularly both onsite and offsite, with the ratio determined with the manager) or remote (working primarily from home, with any onsite presence discussed with the manager). Candidates learn more about the role type and current site status during the recruiting process; for onsite and hybrid roles, commuting is the employee's own responsibility.
