About the Company The Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft on Airbus Way opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015. It produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Engineers at the facility take aircraft from concept to customer delivery, working with production teams on every aspect of assembly, from managing technical information, quality control and maintenance tasks to health and safety, along flowlines and flight lines. Role Overview Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Test Pilot to join its Engineering department based in Mobile, Alabama. The Test Pilot is responsible for ensuring the proper execution of ground and flight tests on A220 and A320 production aircraft. Key Responsibilities Take responsibility for the entire flight, including signing the flight order prepared and co-signed by the L-FTE. As Captain, under DOA privilege and by delegation of the Head of Flight Test, approve flight conditions according to Airbus procedure. Adhere strictly to the authorised flight test plan; based on real-time flight analysis, instrumentation issues, changing weather or aircraft serviceability, the L-FTE may modify the plan in flight with the Captain's concurrence provided it complies with the authorised flight envelope and aircraft limitations. The Captain always retains the right to delete unsuitable items from the existing flight order. Attend post-flight technical debriefs and liaise with engineering staff to expedite the resolution of faults or observations found during approved test flights. Ensure all ground and in-flight arrangements are made for safe and efficient flight conduct, including all briefings in coordination with the I-FTE and dispatch. Engage continuously with customers during the delivery process and take part in customer-focused activities to communicate Airbus's approved positions on major industry issues and flight test matters. Perform other tasks within the broader flight test perimeter as required, such as assisting training departments, conducting external flights (for example lease-recovery, developmental flights and commercial events), providing short-term assistance to other flight test centres (Toulouse, Hamburg, Tianjin, Mirabel) and attending or presenting at conferences. Licences & Qualifications Graduate of an EASA-recognised flight test school (ETPS, EPNER, USNTPS, USAFTPS, NTPS or ITPS). Licence: ICAO ATPL eligible for conversion to an EASA ATPL. Current multi-pilot instrument rating. ICAO English Level 5. Experience 3,000 or more total flight hours. More than 1,000 flight hours of flight test pilot experience. Recent fly-by-wire (FBW) experience. Requirements Refined approach to communication that resolves problems, facilitates consensus and focuses on objectives. Able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively; dependable, self-motivated and accessible. Ability to travel unaccompanied to international destinations for approximately 3 months. Ability to work flexible and extended hours as required (nights, weekends and holidays) within the scope of the Airbus Flight Operations Manual. Authorised to work in the US. Work location: on site 100%. Physical requirements: vision to read screens, documents, reports and engineering drawings; hearing for conversations and production floor alarms; speaking in conversations and meetings; operation of office equipment and production tools such as hydraulic lifts; carrying and lifting up to 30 lb (14 kg); pushing and pulling small office furniture, equipment and tools; sitting for long periods; squatting or kneeling to retrieve items on low shelving; standing for discussions in offices or on the production floor; walking through office and production areas including uneven surfaces; independent travel at short notice. Personal protective equipment: includes but is not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks and protective gloves as required by the site or customer site.
