Job Overview

The Senior Flight Dispatcher is responsible for planning, coordinating and monitoring TAAG's flight operations to ensure the safe, efficient and compliant dispatch of aircraft. The role provides operational control support to flight crews, prepares and authorises flight dispatch documentation, monitors flights throughout their journey and ensures compliance with applicable aviation regulations, company procedures and operational standards.

The Senior Flight Dispatcher also provides technical guidance to Flight Dispatchers, supports operational decision-making and contributes to the continuous improvement of flight dispatch processes.

Job Objective

To ensure the safe, efficient and timely dispatch and monitoring of TAAG flights by preparing operational flight plans, analysing operational conditions, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting the Pilot-in-Command in exercising safe operational control in accordance with applicable regulations and TAAG operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and authorise Operational Flight Plans (OFPs) for scheduled and non-scheduled flights.
  • Conduct flight planning, including route selection, fuel planning, aircraft performance considerations and operational limitations.
  • Analyse meteorological conditions, NOTAMs, airport restrictions and airspace availability before flight dispatch.
  • Monitor flights from departure to arrival and provide operational support to flight crews whenever required.
  • Recommend flight rerouting, delays, diversions or cancellations when operational or safety considerations require.
  • Coordinate with Flight Crew, Operations Control Centre (OCC), Engineering & Maintenance, Ground Operations, Commercial and Air Traffic Services.
  • Ensure compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), national aviation regulations and TAAG operational procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate flight dispatch documentation and operational records.
  • Monitor aircraft operational limitations, MEL/CDL restrictions and aircraft availability.
  • Support disruption management during irregular operations (IROPS).
  • Mentor, coach and provide technical guidance to Flight Dispatchers and newly recruited personnel.
  • Participate in investigations of operational occurrences and recommend corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of dispatch procedures and operational efficiency.
  • Promote compliance with TAAG's Safety Management System (SMS), Quality Management System and Security policies.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Air Transport Management, Aviation Operations or another relevant discipline;

or

  • Secondary Education (12th Grade) complemented by recognised Flight Dispatcher training and relevant aviation experience.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Flight Dispatcher within a commercial airline.
  • Previous experience in an Operations Control Centre (OCC) is highly desirable.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring operational staff is considered an advantage.
