Rate: £41.10 per hour PAYE | £55 per hour Umbrella

The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced NOC L2 Shift Service Engineer to join their Network Operations Centre in Newport. This is a critical role supporting live services across defence and large government environments, operating within a 24/7 service operation.
You will provide second‑line technical support, working closely with internal engineers, architects, third‑party suppliers and stakeholders to ensure service availability, incident resolution and continuous service improvement.
This role requires strong technical expertise in networking, excellent communication skills and the ability to work confidently in high‑pressure, security‑sensitive environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide L2 technical support within the Network Operations Centre, acting as an escalation point for complex incidents
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve service incidents, escalating to L3 when required
- Act as a technical point of contact during major incidents and 24/7 conference bridge calls
- Support implementation of design changes and maintain configuration and change control processes
- Liaise with on‑site engineers, architects, service desk teams and third‑party suppliers
- Ensure services are delivered in line with contractual SLAs and KPIs
- Produce clear, concise technical documentation
- Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives
- Maintain a strong security focus, adhering to JSP 440 and secure working practices at all times
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of networking technologies
- Awareness of related technologies such as Windows environments and ITSM tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Experience working within a structured service or NOC environment
- High awareness of security and compliance requirements
