Job Overview

The Flight Operations Engineer is responsible for providing technical and engineering support to TAAG's Flight Operations by ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant planning and execution of flight operations. The role supports aircraft performance engineering, operational documentation, route analysis, fuel efficiency initiatives, regulatory compliance and the implementation of operational standards in accordance with TAAG policies, aircraft manufacturers' requirements and applicable national and international aviation regulations.

Job Objective

To ensure the technical integrity and operational efficiency of TAAG's flight operations by developing aircraft performance data, analysing operational limitations, supporting flight planning, maintaining operational manuals, monitoring regulatory compliance and providing technical expertise that contributes to safe, efficient and cost-effective flight operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate aircraft performance calculations for all phases of flight.
  • Prepare airport, runway and obstacle performance analyses.
  • Evaluate aircraft operational limitations for existing and new destinations.
  • Support the development, revision and control of the Flight Operations Manual, Performance Manual and other operational documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), IATA standards, ANAC regulations and TAAG operational procedures.
  • Analyse operational performance data and recommend improvements to fuel efficiency and aircraft utilisation.
  • Provide technical support to Flight Dispatch, Flight Crew, Network Planning and other operational departments.
  • Participate in aircraft entry-into-service projects and operational evaluations.
  • Conduct operational risk assessments for new routes, airports and aircraft operations.
  • Liaise with aircraft manufacturers regarding aircraft performance and operational engineering matters.
  • Monitor changes to aviation regulations and manufacturers' documentation, ensuring timely implementation within TAAG.
  • Prepare technical reports, operational analyses and performance studies.
  • Participate in investigations related to operational events and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within Flight Operations.
  • Promote compliance with TAAG's Safety, Security, Quality and Environmental Management Systems.

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aviation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another relevant Engineering discipline.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in Flight Operations Engineering, Aircraft Performance Engineering, Flight Dispatch, Airline Operations or a related aviation environment.
  • Experience within a commercial airline is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Airbus aircraft operations is considered an advantage.
