Role Overview First Officers report to the Chief Pilot administratively, and to their assigned Captain functionally during FAR 121 duty periods. The First Officer is considered to be in training for upgrade to Captain and is expected to take advantage of all Captain instruction and information available. Key Responsibilities Maintain knowledge of the USA Jet General Operations Manual, the FARs, OpSpecs, Aircraft Flight Manual and other instructions relevant to the role. Confirm before each duty period that flight and duty time limitations are met, that you are adequately rested and in proper uniform. Keep the Pilot in Command informed in accordance with company SOPs in all phases of flight. At the discretion of the PIC, perform additional duties as Second-in-Command, including filing, opening and closing flight plans and conducting preflight and post-flight inspections. Check that required documents, navigational aids, manuals and equipment are on board. Participate in or facilitate the loading and offloading of cargo and/or passengers as applicable. Supervise or complete the securing of cargo, cargo nets and the flight crew barrier, and confirm carry-on items are properly stowed. Brief couriers and jump seat riders, and perform ATC communications. Assist other crew members as necessary. Execute ground security requirements mandated by the TSA, including Ground Security Coordinator (GSC) duties and aircraft, cargo and passenger security requirements. Ensure all air cargo is accepted, inspected, loaded and secured aboard the aircraft in line with all applicable domestic and international regulatory and company requirements. Participate actively in USA Jet safety programmes and the Safety Management System, reporting all safety concerns promptly and following applicable occupational safety and health standards at the working location. Requirements Hold the appropriate licences and certificates for the position. Complete the training, checking and qualification requirements defined in USA Jet approved and accepted manuals. Able to read, write and speak English fluently.
