About the Company Safair Operations, trading as FlySafair, is a South African airline operating a Boeing 737 fleet. Job reference: FirstOfficer_04. Department: Flight Deck Crew. Ten positions available. Role Overview FlySafair has vacancies for First Officers at its bases in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Lanseria. The successful applicant will report to the Fleet Captain. This is a permanent position with a market-related salary. Key Responsibilities Operations Ensure the safety of the flight in a timely manner and monitor the flight path and aircraft systems Perform checks and procedures before, during and after each flight Navigate and operate the flight, and communicate with internal departments, external service providers and passengers Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies and procedures, and uphold excellent customer service Submit accurate and complete legal administrative documentation Assume command in the event of incapacitation of the Captain Stay updated with applicable SACAA and international aviation law and the company Operations Manual, and maintain familiarity with the provisions needed to fulfil the role Assist the Captain with operational and administrative duties relating to the flight, and in upholding a high standard of crew discipline, behaviour and personal appearance Carry out flight duties in accordance with FlySafair Standard Operating Procedures, including procedures, limitations and performance for the specific aircraft type, plus any additional duties allocated by the Captain Confirm safe navigation of the aircraft, maintaining a continuous and independent check on both geographical position and safe terrain clearance Volunteer advice, information and assistance to the Captain that contributes to the safe and efficient conduct of the flight Maintain a high personal standard of discipline, conduct and appearance as a representative of the company Support the Captain in developing and maintaining a high standard of professional expertise and morale among the crew Pre-flight Be fully aware of the planned route, contents of briefing sheets, and the forecast conditions and runway states at destination and alternate aerodromes Perform all checks outlined in the Operations Manual and complete all required documents Work with the Captain to review all documents and information needed for informed decisions on fuel selection, alternates and any flight restrictions In-flight Perform or monitor the execution of all normal, abnormal and emergency checklists as specified in the Operations Manual, and ensure they are properly completed Monitor all aspects of the flight, checking that correct procedures and techniques are used and cross-checking all flight instrument indications, especially altitude/height, speed and heading Advise the Captain immediately if the aircraft deviates from the planned flight path, a hazardous situation begins to develop, or any abnormal instrument reading, warning light or indicator is detected Conduct radio telephony communications as required Post-flight Ensure all post-flight procedures are completed per the Operations Manual and FCOM Submit all relevant documentation and reports, for example IQSMS Licences & Qualifications Grade 12 or equivalent Essential: SACAA Commercial Pilot Licence and Class 1 SACAA Medical Preferred: SACAA ATPL Advantageous: type rated on Boeing Detailed knowledge and understanding of national aviation regulations such as SACAA and ICAO Knowledge of Doc 8186 (essential) and of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot licensing content Experience Essential: non-type rated or Boeing type rated with a minimum of 1,500 hours, including 500 hours multi-turbine time Essential: multi-crew experience Advantageous: experience on commercial jets over 20 tons Requirements No existing medical conditions; willing to undergo a drug and alcohol test No criminal record; South African citizen with proof of identity and a valid South African passport Own transport and a South African driver's licence Willing to sign applicable training bond(s) Willing to work irregular hours on a roster Personal attributes Immaculate time-keeping, good interpersonal skills and excellent communication and writing skills Professional, high integrity, well-groomed and disciplined Excellent situational awareness and good leadership skills Positive attitude, able to handle high levels of responsibility and pressure A team player who keeps morale positive, able to work irregular hours Additional Information Application guidance: email applications will not be accepted. Requirements
