Job Description

Role Overview The Captain conducts assigned flights in accordance with the detailed provisions of the Airline Operations Manual and in compliance with the respective civil aviation authority regulations. He or she must ensure the highest levels of safety, security and efficiency on all operated flights, support and guide the flight and cabin crew, handle emergencies and ad-hoc scenarios effectively, and take control of the flight to ensure successful performance and a positive corporate image. Key Responsibilities Fly the assigned aircraft between destinations in accordance with the given schedules and approved flight plans, acting as the ultimate authority for the aircraft, with priorities in the order of safety, efficiency and passenger comfort. Ensure assigned flights are conducted in accordance with the Airline's Operations Manual and regulations, and implement, monitor and maintain the procedures needed for safe and smooth aircraft operation. Ensure timely attendance, proper grooming, fitness and legality of yourself and the flight crew; conduct the pre-flight briefing so crew members are aware of flight details, and ensure briefings are properly completed before each action. Liaise with the co-pilots (First Officer and Second Officer) and the Dispatch team before each flight so crew are well prepared and informed on aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather, fuel, weight and distribution of roles. Ensure, within the safety constraints of the Operations Manual, that the aircraft is flown to make the most efficient and effective use of fuel. Ensure the required safety, security, fuel and transit checks are carried out before, during and after each flight; direct the crew on how to react to safety or security irregularities and decide on escalations if needed. Cooperate with maintenance engineers to confirm the aircraft's technical status and suitability to fly; seek support from MCC and MROs to raise concerns and identify defects, and implement rectification or corrective measures immediately where applicable. Ensure all required documents and technical logs are completed with accurate data as per Airline and civil aviation authority regulations, including the technical logbook, journey book, boarding sheets and reports. Ensure the Airline Operations Manual is distributed, accounted for, maintained, kept up to date, understood and complied with by the flight crew. Keep up to date with the legal requirements of the various regulatory bodies, including the civil aviation authority and Airbus, relating to flights and flight crew. Undertake additional ground-based tasks such as Safety Officer or Security Officer as directed by the line manager and in accordance with Part A of the Operations Manual. Licences & Qualifications An appropriate ATPL licence is a must. Must pass the technical and psychometric assessment for pilots to Airline and civil aviation authority standards. Must pass the medical fitness check-up for pilots to Airline and civil aviation authority standards. Training in safety and emergency response is essential; a formal qualification is an advantage. Basic airport and security procedures and regulations training is an advantage. Crew Resource Management training is an advantage. Knowledge of IATA principles and standards relating to security is an advantage. Experience Minimum 4,000 hours of flying experience; Airbus A320 is preferred. Experience with a low-cost airline is highly desirable. Acceptable industry knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures. Knowledge and exposure to handle other delegated roles such as security or safety duties, as required by the Airline and civil aviation authority. Exposure to QA, safety, security and audit procedures and practices affecting flight operations. Capable of implementing policies, procedures and manuals in line with approved standards and regulations. Requirements Proficient in aircraft systems and in Microsoft Office. Very good written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations. Very good English; other local languages in the country of employment are an advantage. Able to perform in a changing environment with heavy workload schedules and ad-hoc scenarios. Composed, self-confident and focused, capable of handling emergencies and threats efficiently. Proven skills in analysing data, identifying pitfalls and recommending cost-effective solutions. Cost-oriented, with effective problem-solving and decision-making skills. High accuracy and attention to both results and detail. Uses technical expertise and interpersonal skills to support company objectives and deliver against business strategy and set KPIs.
