Role Overview Ascent is building a talent pool for Basic Flying Training (BFT) Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs) and Qualified Instructors (QIs) at RAF Valley, so that the right people are ready to step into key roles as they become available. RAF Valley is home to fast-paced, high-impact flying training; joining the talent pool puts you first in line when opportunities arise to deliver instruction in a dynamic environment. How it works: apply and interview, and if successful you will be added to the talent pool for up to 12 months. As roles open, Ascent will contact you based on your availability and its operational needs, and you will have the opportunity to express interest before any formal offer is made. Key Responsibilities As a Qualified Instructor on the Basic Flying Training Squadron at RAF Valley you will be part of a small, niche team delivering ground school and synthetic training to military and Ascent aircrew on the Texan T1. You will: Conduct ground-based instruction of military BFT Student Qualified Flying Instructors (SQFIs) and ab-initio pilots in accordance with BFT syllabuses, covering conversion, instrument, navigation, weapon profiles, tactical and more advanced evolutions Assist in currency training for existing QFIs Conduct computer-based training, computer-aided instruction and simulator training, including ground school lessons and simulated airborne events in accordance with BFT syllabuses Conduct other tasks related to Texan T1 training as directed Assist curriculum design as a Texan T1 subject matter expert in the development and maintenance of BFT courseware Take part in innovation work for the future of UK MFTS Requirements Essential: previous experience as a Qualified Flying Instructor pilot in the military environment Essential: qualifications and/or recommendations from the RAF Central Flying School Extremely advantageous: previous experience in a Basic Flying Training role on a turboprop airframe Beneficial but not necessarily essential: experience in a synthetic training device Experienced pilots with a passion for developing the military aviators of the future, and aircrew who thrive in structured, high-tempo training environments Professionals committed to safety, precision and instructional excellence, who thrive when instructing students Excellent communicator, accustomed to working with different levels of ability so that the full spectrum of students can be nurtured, in a heavily customer-focused environment Experience of multi-faceted flying disciplines, combining leadership and airmanship to provide a positive learning environment Demonstrable experience of working in collaboration with other teams Strong presentational skills, targeting a wide audience of varying abilities Able to develop and update courseware with emerging best practice and updates as required Full engagement with the RAF safety culture Additional Information No requisition reference is published; the stable key is the Evalu-8 ats_post id in the job link. Requirements
