Job description

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced helicopters for commercial and military missions. The Flight Test Engineering Senior Manager will be responsible for providing leadership and management for the flight test engineering team at the company's development flight test center in West Palm Beach, Florida. The flight test department consists of approximately 100 flight test engineers and technicians in disciplines including Structures & Dynamics, Powerplants, Performance, Handling Qualities & Flight Controls, and Special Projects groups as well as Flight Test Data Processing and Telemetry operations.

Duties & Responsibilities
Daily oversight of flight test engineering team in West Palm Beach, FL.
Provide technical leadership for all flight test engineering activities.
Champion of flight safety
Manage flight test engineering department staff levels to meet multiple, simultaneous flight test programs, including off-site testing locations.
Build and maintain a highly engaged and efficient flight test engineering team.
Provide leadership and resources for all flight test programs, to assure that technical, cost and schedule objectives are achieved, and risks are successfully identified/mitigated. Liaison with other company departments to overcome execution obstacles.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives for flight test processes, procedures, and tools in collaboration with entire Sikorsky flight test community.
Maintain and enhance flight test procedures including Model Development Safety Committee to ensure safe flight test operations.
Ensure adherence to company and department policies and procedures, including Safety, Security, International Trade Compliance, Aviation Safety, Ethics policies.
Coordinate subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, salary analysis, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Provide career development and mentorship for department employees.
Ensure flight test engineering team has necessary and appropriate facilities, equipment, and tools to execute flight test programs at the site
Manage flight test capital projects and flight test engineering department financial expenses budget.

This position reports to the Flight Test Department Senior Manager.

Basic Qualifications:
Requires knowledge of engineering organization, aircraft and mechanical design and development, aeronautical principles and systems, and the ability to coordinate and manage diversified technical operations.
BS in Engineering from an accredited college is required.
Must have minimum 10 years work experience
Must have previous experience managing technical teams
Must have previous flight operations experience
Must have good interpersonal skills.
Must be customer focused and a team player. Must be able to work in small/large teams.
Must be self-motivated and goal oriented
Must be able to think analytically and solve problems,
Must possess good communication skills to all levels of the organization (both written and oral)
Must possess general aviation experience
Must be experienced with engineering and configuration management
Must know Microsoft Office Suite
Personal flexibility is required to potentially support unusual working hours, weekends, and travel (20%).

Desired Skills:
An advanced degree in a technical discipline is preferred.
Experience in flight test, especially rotary wing aircraft, highly desired
Previous experience managing multifunctional departments >50 people
Previous project management experience.
Experience with Solumina, Matrix One, SAP
Previous US military flight test program execution experience and familiarity with flight test directorate requirements
Working knowledge of FAA certification and airworthiness regulations. Previous FAA certification experience is desired.
