Purpose of the Role

General Management of Flight Operations for AirTanker

The Individual

General Manager - Flight Crew

Job Responsibilities


  • Line management of the all non-technical matters relating to the welfare, performance and discipline of pilots

  • Ensuring that effective two-way communications are maintained with the pilot community;

  • In conjunction with the Crewing and Leasing Departments, agreeing the pilot resource requirements

  • Managing the resource plan, including recruitment aspects, to ensure that a sufficient number of pilots is available to meet the demands of the flying and the training programmes

  • Actively monitoring and managing the pilot rosters to ensure that the scheduling protocols are observed and that best practice is employed by the Crew Scheduling Department


  • Calculating, submitting and controlling the Flight Operations (Pilot) budget

  • Supporting business change ideas to ensure they deliver an improvement in areas related to the flight operation


  • Complying with the requirements of the AirTanker SMS, Quality and Environmental Management Systems to provide safe and efficient outcomes

  • Actively participating in all the safety forums relevant to non-technical pilot matters

  • Performing a Quality Control function regarding the receipt of Fatigue and Discretion Reports for ATr pilots to ensure that any trends are identified, reported and addressed


  • Support the Heads of Civil and Military Training to maintain a training culture that establishes and maintains the optimum environment for high performance and the promotion of safety

  • Ensure that the line pilot establishment completes all non-technical training in accordance with AirTanker requirements

  • Monitoring completion of any required CBT and advising the Head of Civil Training of any regulatory training that has not been completed

Aircraft and Equipment

  • Working with the IT Department to ensure the most effective IT systems are available for both FOPS managers and the pilot workforce


  • The production, revision and amendment of the Pilot Procedures Manual, the Pilot Handbook, Rostering Protocols, and any other non-technical/non-regulatory departmental publications

  • In co-operation with the HR Department, maintaining all pilot employment records to ensure compliance with the GDPR.
