Position Overview:

Come join Boeing Commercial Derivative Airplanes in San Antonio and the unique opportunity to work on the next generation Presidential Aircraft (VC-25B). San Antonio, TX will be this position's home. This position may require a Domestic Temporary Assignment (DTA) for training in Tukwila, WA.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Level K Manager of dedicated, multi-disciplined VC-25B (747-8) Flight Deck Avionics Military Communication/Navigation/Surveillance/Mission Communications product team.
  • Responsible for the design, development, technical subcontract management, integration, test, airworthiness and FAA and Military certification of an integrated Commercial and Military Navigation, Communication, Surveillance and Mission Communication subsystem suite.
  • The manager will report to the Avionics Senior Manager and in this management role will represent the Flight Deck and Mission Communications Avionics team at various program and Customer formal activities.
  • The manager will provide guidance and leadership to the team during the planned multiple and simultaneous airplane factory checkout, test, and certification phased program.
  • Responsibilities include working directly with the team Control Account Manager (CAM), forecasting workload with estimates to completion and managing budget baselines for each team discipline ensuring the plan remains current.
  • The manager will lead the team to develop detailed qualification plans, test execution, integration plans, perform Technical Subcontract management of several development and non-development suppliers, as well as work closely with BCA Airplane Systems owners and leadership to ensure a successful platform build, integration, test, and certification process is achieved.
  • Accept any project management task, regardless of size, complexity or importance, employs leading indicators to measure performance where applicable, and quickly recognize and mitigate plan deviations to include development and implementation of recovery plans if necessary.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
  • This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • Experience with Program management best practices and associated tools to include earn value management, risk and opportunity management, baseline and configuration management, leading indicators development, and supplier management is required.
  • Experience in both integration lab and ground/flight test environments.
  • Experience in Avionics systems architecture, requirements, design, interfaces, platform integration, flight test planning, testing, validation and verification.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 10 or more years of experience working on commercial and military avionics subsystem(s) or missions communications systems.
  • Familiar with the application of associated tools, instrumentation, and equipment necessary to perform, analyze, interpret, and document test reports and findings from flight test activities and results.
  • Experience in verification, validation, airworthiness certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Top Secret clearance preferred.
Typical Education & Experience:
  • Degree and experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's with 10 or more years of experience. Bachelor or Masters of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, or mathematics. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
