United Kingdom
Job description
Salary: Up to ?43,000 depending on skills and relevant experience
Contract type: Permanent

We are the UK's aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest security standards and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly changing aviation environment.

The Role
We are looking for an Aviation Security (AvSec) Regulation Expert Advisor - Cargo Team - to join our AvSec Regulation Group in Westferry Circus, Canary Wharf. We act as the intermediary between central Government and the aviation industry, providing advice and assistance on the development, delivery and implementation of regulatory policy.

The primary purpose of this newly introduced role is to provide expert advice and analysis on all aspects of regulation of air cargo security. You'll assess regulatory options supporting policy initiatives, review the effectiveness of existing regulatory measures, and provide advice to Government and industry on the implementation of security controls in the context of threat and risk mitigation.

You'll support the Head of Function with advice, analysis and appraisal in relation to particular areas of the UK's National Aviation Security Programme (NASP).

You'll manage interaction with external partners/key NASP stakeholders, in particular Government and the aviation industry.

You'll become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Aviation Security (cargo). You'll acquire, or further develop, knowledge and experience of the air freight industry in addition to the regulatory framework that underpins its security.

About you
  • We're looking for someone who can analyse and interpret complex information in order to generate concise, accurate and timely briefings
  • You will have experience in drafting accurate and influential written documents in a wide variety of styles, based on evidence and tailored to the appropriate audience
  • You are a clear and confident communicator, with the ability to be flexible but influential when required
  • You will have a keen eye for detail and be able to make evidence-based decisions.
  • Knowledge of the logistics industry, including cargo and mail secure supply chains, and involvement in a regulatory environment is desirable, but not essential
  • You'll need to be willing to undergo security vetting to Security Clearance (SC) Level.

What can we offer you?
This is a unique opportunity to work on critical national security projects in a policy/ regulatory environment. You'll benefit from an organisation focused on your development and training in this exciting area. The ability to develop in the role is critical to the team's outlook and is valued over prior experience in air cargo security, although experience can be beneficial to applicants.

You'll join a strong, supportive and diverse team that has in-depth experience of working in the regulatory environment, as well as working alongside central Government. You will have the opportunity to work flexibly including working from home (based on the needs of the role), but still receive the necessary support and training commensurate in the post, so you will be best placed to develop and succeed.

Working with Us
We offer a range of fantastic benefits. In addition to flexible working arrangements, we offer a free onsite gym (located at the Gatwick office), 28 days annual leave, a competitive pension scheme and much more.

Being an equal opportunity employer, we actively encourage and support applications from all backgrounds. If you have a disability or special need that requires adjustments, please let us know. Wherever possible, we offer flexible and variable working hours to help our people effectively manage all areas of their lives.
