Job description

Summary of the role:

To support the flight safety function and assist the Global and EASA Safety Manager in managing the operation of the aviation Safety Management System (SMS) and its associated Emergency Response Plan (ERP) at FTO Oxford together with detailed analysis of recorded flight data.

Responsibilities:

  • Administration and monitoring of the Aviation Safety Reporting system, ensuring occurrence reports are recorded accurately and associated risks are analysed
  • Reports of Investigation, when necessary, are provided to the local management team (and, if required, the National Aviation Authority) in expected time frames
  • As editor, prepare and keep up to date the Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
  • Liaise with airport departments and Emergency Services on ERP matters.
  • Process recorded flight data from FTO Oxford aircraft using the Analysis Station
  • Report significant events to the FTO Oxford Safety Manager
  • Generate and distribute appropriately-focused flight safety publicity and awareness material (posters etc) for FTO all staff and students.
  • Administer the local operation of the Flight Risk Assessment Tool (FRAT) and associated analysis of risks
  • Organise, attend and take minutes of meetings of the FTO Oxford Safety Action Group (SAG) and Hazard Identification/Risk Assessment (HIRA) meetings

Skills:

Safety Operations Skills:

  • Must be able to conduct and demonstrate strong interview skills and techniques
  • Computer literate and competent with standard office IT tools

Education:

  • Experience in airline operations and/or flight training organization is desirable
  • Experience in flight safety is desirable
  • Knowledge of local aviation regulations is desirable
  • Must be educated to bachelor’s degree level

Experience:

  • 2 – 5 years of job related experience
  • Hold, or have held a pilot’s licence, ideally with experience of flight instruction and operation of flight training aircraft
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure
  • This role requires mature judgement and use of precedent and a wide range of learned skills
  • Comfortable making / taking decisions and recommendations without formal guidelines or precedents if necessary
