Job description

Purpose of position:To complete detailed inspections of gas turbine engine and propeller components and assemblies in accordance with the approved technical data and SAC policies/procedures.

Essential Functions:(must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).

  • Instructs production personnel in proper procedures for compliance with product/company standards.
  • Completes daily inspection assignments as directed by the lead inspection.
  • Examines material or product for surface defects such as cracks, pits and incomplete welds.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints with GD&T to determine part conformity.
  • Completes inspections using precision measuring instruments to complete inspections in accordance with approved technical data.
  • Compares product with parts list or sample model to ensure completion of assembly.
  • Rejects defective parts, and marks type of defect on part, container of parts or inspection tag.
  • Timely communicates with Lead Inspector concerning any quality processes.
  • Utilizes the electronic database to complete transactions.
  • Completes paperwork required for quality system.
  • Assists with job training of other inspection personnel in the completion of inspection responsibilities.
  • Keeps a clean work environment using continuous improvement tools.
  • Maintains an understanding of the methodology, employed by bureaucratic and government organizations, and skills, to deal with the requirements and systems imposed by these organizations.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of inspections.
  • Observes and practices all safety procedures and personnel policies and ensures same of personnel.
  • Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner.
  • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy.
  • Works overtime as needed.

Skills, knowledge and abilities:(these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).

  • Must be knowledgeable in the use of precision measuring instruments including calipers micrometers, hard gages, dial bores gages, height gages and other surface plate equipment.
  • Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among co-workers and supervisors.
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision and to take initiative.
  • Must be able to use applied knowledge to formulate positive solutions to problem situations.
  • Must be able to apply common sense.
  • Must be able to effectively read, write and communicate in English.
  • Must be proficient in specific company software and Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using fractions and decimals; compute percentages, ratios, rates and interpret graphs.
  • Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to properly wear all applicable PPE.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and more, with assistance occasionally.
  • Must be able to see within 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to hear running machinery.
  • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively.
  • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination.
  • Must regularly be able to reach overhead.
  • Must regularly be able to squat, bend, twist and stand.
  • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally.

Marginal Functions:(Duties that are likely to be assigned to this person, unless he/she proves unable to perform them after receiving training and/or accommodations that the company judges appropriate).

  • Evaluate and complete inspections on 54H60 propellers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required. Two years aviation inspection experience required. FAA Power Plant license preferred. Must pass a criminal background check and DOT drug screen and comply with all FAA regulations.

Work conditions:
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Noise is generally loud.
