Job Summary

The Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) Technician III performs all aspects of Non-Destructive Inspections on aircraft and associated equipment and provides on-the-spot instruction to Non-Destructive Inspection and maintenance personnel as necessary. Advises in the use of technical data to analyze and determine NDI results.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)

  • Conduct Personnel Evaluations (completed maintenance actions, completed maintenance inspections, and completed task evaluations) to assess NDI technicians' job proficiency, degree of training, and compliance with technical data.
  • Performs NDI on assigned aircraft and related components as indicated by manufacturer and program requirements.
  • Conducts Non-Destructive Inspections and studies for special purposes as directed.
  • Ensures maintenance safety procedures are complied with at all times.
  • Provides on-the-spot instructional assistance whenever conditions permit.
  • Prepares and/or reviews maintenance instructions, LOIs and SOPs to ensure QC objectives are defined and all aspects of Non-Destructive Inspection are performed safely and within the established guidelines.
  • Prepares and reviews Non-Destructive Inspection Procedures and insures that they are performed safely and within the established guidelines.
  • Reviews incoming technical publications and directives for applicability.
  • Assists maintenance as necessary in technical matters involving Non-Destructive Inspection.
  • Ensures all required reports and documentation are completed thoroughly and accurately.
  • Reviews records to determine discrepancy trends and specific problem areas.
  • Monitors calibration of equipment and special tools required.
  • Ensures proper certification of Contractor and host nation maintenance personnel.
  • Is constantly aware of potential Foreign Object Damage (FOD) hazards.
  • Continuously reviews pertinent technical publications and related directives in order to remain current on changes to subject material.
  • Recommends and advises responsible parties on technical publications which would be of prime and essential assistance in performing the Non-Destructive Inspection.
  • Assists in the review of pertinent technical manuals and preparation of data contained in subject material.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of all required forms, records, and reports relative to the quality control function.
  • Performs inspections in accordance with technical publications and the Quality Control Plan.
  • Ensures safety procedures are complied with at all times.
  • Provides formal training to personnel when required to certify limited Level L.
  • Coordinates activities with Quality Control Manager.
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  • Expert knowledge of program aircraft systems, components, and associated equipment, and applicable technical orders within area of specialty.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft maintenance management programs.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Control programs and OSHA regulations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills for inspection duty.
  • Ability to analyze inspection findings.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of hand tools, hardware and equipment used in the maintenance of assigned aircraft.
  • Must be fully knowledgeable of all requirements within the Tech Orders as they apply.
  • Must be able to interpret technical data.

Experience & Education

  • Completion of high school or equivalent and ability to read, write, and interpret technical data is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in one or more aircraft systems and certified.
  • LEVEL III PT, MT, ET, UT and RT inspector under NAS-410, ASNT SNT-TCIA or ATA-I05.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable position.
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds.
