Scope/ Purpose of the Position:
 
Reporting to the Manager, Engine Maintenance and Cost Optimization, this position is primarily responsible to optimize, manage and lead the execution of engine maintenance cost saving initiatives. The incumbent must be able to understand the organization’s business direction and be able to anticipate and model opportunities to optimize repair schedules for the Engine BU to ensure quality, cost efficient and timely repairs.  This position will center on the Engine BU unit but will also include interface with all levels of management and numerous functions across several AC branches.
 
Accountabilities (Responsibilities):
  • Lead in the planning, execution and overall management of cost saving and transformation projects within the Engine BU and collaborate with other managers and stakeholders to successfully achieve targets. 
  • In collaboration with the Engine Managers and other business unit leaders, optimize the engine maintenance budget and repair schedules by identifying cost saving or cost transformation opportunities ($50M annually). 
  • Within the Engine BU, lead and support the development, implementation, and deployment of MxOptimus (in-house developed maintenance cost optimization and planning tool leveraging AI capabilities/technologies) to ensure this tool is functional and used to its full capabilities by the team. Coordinate the training and be the focal point with AC IT to increase functionality, resolve system issues and improve process performance. 
  • Leverage MxOptimus to forecast scenarios and provide fleetwide engine removal, workscoping and costing data to the Engine Maintenance team to support decision making and cost optimization ($15M annually).  
  • Manage the use of intermediate and long-range planning tools to forecast engine maintenance spend and develop strategies to overcome upcoming cost challenges.  
  • Influence internal and external stakeholders to build consensus and gain approval on identified cost saving and cost transformation initiatives to implement. 
  • Lead cost transformation projects within the Engine BU team to build and maintain a cost-conscience culture focused around MxOptimus. 
  • Oversee and manage any risks associated with cost-saving initiatives; highlight them to the business unit leaders and provide mitigating solutions. 
  • Ensure maximum value is extracted from the strategic initiatives while minimizing the risk; optimize this balance. 
  • Ensure that new projects/initiatives are driven in a timely manner and are implemented in the Engine BU. 
  • Continually review the actual outcomes versus predicted savings and use this knowledge to increase efficiency going forward; share this acquired knowledge with the business unit.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant field (Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, etc.). 
  • Minimum 10 years of engine maintenance experience including in-depth knowledge of engine removal forecasting, workscoping and budgeting. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with continuous improvement, project management and/or cost transformation, preferably in an aerospace environment. 
  • Must possess excellent and demonstrable project management skills and experience in delivering large projects.  Green or Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma Certification and/or PMP is an asset. 
  • Must be knowledgeable and have experience with planning and forecasting systems  
  • Superior planning and organization abilities to efficiently manage time, money, and other resources to achieve goals. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team with minimal supervision and must have strong organizational skills with an aptitude to juggle priorities to meet deadlines.  
  • Ability to maintain strong and effective relationships with internal and external clients. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills 
  • Proficiency with MS Work, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and MS Project. 
  • Familiar with a variety of the industry’s concepts, practices, and procedures
