Tasks

The Turbomachinery Designer will support the development of the conversion of an existing kerosene aeroengine into a LH2 aeroengine. Therefor it should be able to master the current aeroengine performance, systems and equipments, and together with the team, to propose and master the changes for achieving so.

  • Based on the existing engine design and the overall performance, to study, analyze and propose the modifications for converting the engine to a full LH2 aeroengine.
  • In depth knowledge and working experience with solutions, best Practices & Process of Air breathing engine and design tools.
  • Define the suitable technical modifications to materials and the design of the vanes/blades, shaft, and bearings, bearing housing and relevant mating parts due to the LH2 conversion
  • Set up test campaigns to validate the models
  • Assist the engineering team in performing a make-or-buy analysis
  • Follow the production, assembly, integration and test plans
  • Exchange continuously with other teams (engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, procurement, and test) inside and outside of the company to keep the production progressing.
  • Involvement into the propulsion research and development
  • Thorough understanding of the full product and product development life cycle, Engineering knowledge and able to perform early hand calculations to ensure design solution is feasible
  • Work with Systems Engineers to ensure all system requirements are met

Requirements

  • MTech or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering,
  • 5 Years experience in aeroengine Combustion
  • 3+ years of experience in compressor or turbine design,
  • Work experience with CAD and CFD software,
  • Strong background in fluids, gas dynamics, thermo-mechanics, and structures,
  • Experience in mechanical design, assembly production, and process control,
  • Fluent in English as working language. Spanish and German will be added advantage.

Preferred skills & experience:

  • Proficiency in Siemens tool suite: Star-CCM, NX, PLM, and TeamCenter,
  • Awareness of aerospace standards and Materials
  • Experience in areas like Hydrogen, Aero engines, Industrial gas Turbines
