Job description

Swiss based Dufour Aerospace is developing an eVTOL platform based on tilt-wing technology to make future manned and unmanned electric and hybrid electric aircraft a reality. Dufour’s prototypes have already flown many hundreds of flights – both manned and unmanned. The combination of VTOL operation, aircraft design and software development expertise puts Dufour Aerospace at the forefront of Advanced Air Mobility.

Our internship positions target students with a minimum commitment of 6 months and a potential interest in subsequently working with us.

Tasks

Simulation Engineer

We are seeking a Simulation Engineer with expertise in aircraft systems modeling and system identification to join our team and work on our tilt-wing aircraft simulation. In this interdisciplinary role, you will help to model various systems of the aircraft in real-time with a focus on the hybrid-electrical propulsion system. In addition, you will use flight test data to perform system identification and validation.

  • Use flight test data to perform system identification and update simulation models.
  • Develop and validate real-time simulation models of hybrid-electrical propulsion systems and other aircraft systems.
  • Work closely with the controls and flight test teams to ensure that the simulation models meet their needs.
  • Support testing, validation and continuous improvement of the simulation models

Working location is Altstetten ZH and Dübendorf ZH with plans to move to Dübendorf permanently towards the end of the year.

Requirements

Required:

  • Passion for aviation, aerospace engineering and flight simulation.
  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • Strong experience with processing and analysis of flight test data and its use for system identification.
  • Strong experience with the modeling of dynamical systems, preferably hybrid-electric propulsion systems (batteries, motors, hybrid systems, etc.).
  • Solid knowledge of Python and familiarity with Git.
  • A hands-on problem-solving approach to engineering problems.# Desired
  • Experience with rotorcraft and rotor/propeller modeling.
  • Experience in the simulation of 6DoF dynamical models.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for aircraft simulators.
  • Basic knowledge in C++
  • Familiarity with databases (InfluxDB) and communication protocols (UDP)

Desired:

  • Background in the drone/aviation industry
  • Experience with piloting aircraft (either RC or PPL)

Benefits

We offer flexible working hours with the possibility to get individual tasks done from home. We fuel our employees with coffee, tea, and snacks and do our utmost to provide whatever enables them to perform their best.
