Job Summary
Working on Space Equipment (primarily for European Space Agency missions / telecommunications satellites) with responsibility for the implementation of the Project Quality Assurance requirements to ensure that the delivered Equipment is compliant with the Customers Contractual Requirements

No direct management of staff but typically indirect management of 5 people
Internal Team Relationships
The postholder will report to the local Head of Equipment quality for all quality matters. In this way the Product Assurance requirements of all Equipment programmes are co-ordinated and directed and remain independent and have unimpeded access to top Management.
The post is a `key' designated core team project role with excellent exposure to a variety of activities within the Space Industry
The postholder will liaise with the customer representatives and Airbus subcontractors, providing opportunities to grow their network and experience within the Space industry. The postholder has the authority to resolve all matters pertaining to quality including the right to suspend any activities that appear to jeopardise the quality of the program until a satisfactory resolution has been achieved
The role is to be indirectly responsible for the extended team of QA engineers and specialists in the field of EEE Parts, materials and processes, software and configuration control, and report into the project core team the status of their activities.
The postholder shall be able to work autonomously within the Project team but where necessary has the right to refer any matter to the Head of Equipment quality for resolution.
The responsibility for the external subcontracted Products may be delegated to the Procurement PA
External Relationships
The EPAE will be the main interface with Customers on all quality issues at Equipment level but must ensure that the Project extended team quality functions are kept fully aware of any issues.
Job Profile
The prime duties that the EPAE and their team are responsible for include but are not limited to the following -
Financial
- Estimate and control all quality costs directly associated with their Projects team
Design
- Participation in all significant Program, Engineering and Management meetings
- Ensure that Project PA Requirements are adhered to internally and externally
- Review and approve drawings and procedures and their subsequent amendments
- Undertake the preparation of quality and risk mitigation plans
Procurement
- Ensure that procurement product assurance requirements are fully implemented and conduct audits when necessary
Manufacturing/ AIT
- Problem solving in the frame of NRBs to resolve non-conformances
- Ensure that adequate work instructions and records are maintained throughout the project lifecycle
- Oversee the necessary inspections and quality checks of the equipment
- Review of Test Plans, Procedures
Reviews:
- EQSR: Oversee justification of materials and processes to be used based on adequate qualification and heritage
- MRR: Chairing Manufacturing Readiness Reviews to ensure the preparation is sufficient to allow manufacturing or assembly to proceed and agreeing on MIPs (inspection points)
- TRR: Chairing Test Readiness Reviews to ensure that adequate preparation has been taken to enable commencement of equipment testing
- TRB: For internal testing, Chair the Test Review Board, review results and ensure Non-Conformances are captured
- DRB: Ensuring adequate and timely preparation for the Delivery Review Boards has been achieved to allow delivery of Equipment to Airbus
General Duties Throughout The Life Cycle of the Product
- Work in a team environment providing valued inputs, calling upon any specialist knowledge as appropriate.
- Proactively seek to implement lessons learned
- Negotiate with external Customers on quality issues
- Review Company Standards and proposing changes where necessary
- Chair Non Conformance Review Boards [NRB] to resolve issues efficiently
- Produce and report NCR statistics to allow Project level decisions for prevention
Skills/Experience Required
Specific Requirements
- Good Communication and facilitation skills
- High competency in problem solving and teamwork
- A passion for and knowledge of the space industry
- Experience in RF and/or Digital Electronic equipment design/manufacture support
- Knowledge of Company Quality Systems
- Knowledge of Product Assurance requirements - ideally in the field of Space application

HNC / Degree in appropriate technical subject
Working Pattern
Monday to Friday days - ad hoc opportunity for working extra hours mid-week & weekends
Travel
Occasional travel to other UK sites

Probable extension after initial contract duration
Base of Work
Following a familiarisation period on site this role will involve hybrid working 3 days per week on-site and two days per week working from home candidates must be able to work on site full time when required - free parking is provided
