Job description

At Maeve Aerospace we are committed to creating a sustainable future by developing an all-electric, zero-emission commercial aircraft for the generation who wants to travel, not pollute. Our team is dedicated to upholding our mission of sustainability, innovation and boldness. We have 5 core values that we want all our team members to connect to: innovation, respect, transparency, sustainability, and teamwork.

Within Maeve Aerospace we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer that will drive the design and prototyping of our battery system from cell-to-system. As Battery Mechanical Engineer you will join the Battery Systems Department and report to the Battery Department Lead.

Tasks

As part of the Battery Systems Department you will be:

  • Performing the conceptual and detailed design of the latest battery prototype generation towards high energy density yet safe battery designs in line with aerospace battery requirements.
  • Responsible for production, testing, and validation of the battery and its mechanical subcomponents.
  • Conducting trade-off studies towards the most optimal cell-to-airframe integration including work on all battery levels, i.e. on the cell-to-module and module-to-system levels.
  • Supporting the battery team to derive mechanical solutions for battery cell integration as well as thermal management (heating & cooling) and thermal runaway avoidance systems based on the characteristics of the cells selected.
  • Design the battery system in our CAD design software and run mechanical and thermal simulations. Your experience will support the definition of our battery roadmap for the current cells and future unknown cells.

As Battery Mechanical Engineer you master both the analytical design process as well as the rapid prototyping skillset. Being part of the Battery Systems Department means you and the team will be at the forefront of designing the battery of the future. Your knowledge on materials under loads, thermal conditions and fatigue will be a driving factor in the many design decisions of our battery system.

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical, Aerospace or Vehicle engineering or gained sufficient battery mechanical experience in previous job roles.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in battery pack design with a preferred experience within automotive or aerospace (e.g. vTOL, sTOL, CTOL).
  • Good knowledge of thermal, mechanical, and electrical engineering principles is required.
  • Practical experience using 3D CAD (Siemens NX or Solidworks is preferred) and PDM systems.
  • Experience in simulations (structural, thermal, electrical) is required.
  • Experience in designing lightweight structures (e.g. via carbon fiber or glass fiber composite materials) is desirable.
  • Selection and management of third-party vendors and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems and regulations is considered a bonus.
  • Proven experience with building or prototyping systems is considered a bonus.
  • High proficiency in English and excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to work as part of a dynamic and multicultural team in an aerospace start-up environment.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary and shares as part of Maeve's Employee Shares Program.

  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at Maeve. Maeve is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all qualified individuals regardless of ethnicity, sex, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
