The Senior Maintenance Controller role is a key role within the Engineering organisation that requires a high degree of operational experience and time in position to become fully qualified and effective. The role is responsible for the 24/7 technical worldwide operational management of the Cathay Pacific and Air Hong Kong fleets. Senior Maintenance Controllers work within the airline Integrated Operations Centre and provide on the spot technical advice to flight crews and line maintenance engineers both in the air and on the ground when dealing with defects and technical problems to resolve Aircraft on Ground (AOG) and technical disruption to minimise customer impact and the loss of aircraft availability. Senior Maintenance Controllers are required to make operational decisions and airworthiness judgements that can directly affect the safety of the aircraft. The Senior Maintenance Controller role therefore requires significant operational experience and aircraft type training across all types in the Cathay Pacific and Air Hong Kong fleets.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Maintenance Controller role is a 24/7 function, and the job holder will be required to work on shift in the Cathay Pacific Integrated Operations Centre in Cathay City and/or the joint Cathay Pacific / HAECO Centre of Excellence in Hong Kong International Airport in Terminal 1.

The Senior Maintenance Controller is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the delivery of a safe, compliant, on-time and defect-free operation to the airline through proactive defect management, providing on the spot decisions and airworthiness judgements to flight crew and line maintenance engineers in Hong Kong and around the global network.
  • Actively monitoring aircraft defect alerts and overseeing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organisations and line stations for proper troubleshooting and rectification to minimise loss of aircraft availability due to technical delay and Aircraft on Ground (AOG) events.
  • Proactively identifying technical and maintenance risks to the planned operation and collaborating with the airline Integrated Operations Centre and the joint airline/MRO Centre of Excellence to drive the appropriate solutions.
  • collaborating with internal departments, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and MROs for efficient and effective solutions to technical defects affecting the flying schedule.
  • Managing AOG recovery events worldwide, including requirement for Base Maintenance support, through outport Engineering Managers, by tracking milestones and to ensure timely AOG recovery.
  • Exploring options to execute the most sensible solutions to recover aircraft by considering operation requirements and costs.
  • Building and managing effective relationships with major MROs and airlines to enable resource access in the network.
  • Driving MROs to devote adequate manpower and other resources to ensure efficient AOG recovery by reducing idle time to a minimum.
  • Driving OEMs and Engineering operational teams to deliver quality technical support services.
  • Reviewing the major AOG events and championing continuous improvement by driving relevant internal and external stakeholders to mitigate causes of customer and operational disruption as well as maintenance burden drivers.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years’ certifying experience on aircraft types operated by Cathay Pacific or Air Hong Kong.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Maintenance Control position within Cathay Pacific or a major commercial airline.
  • Must be a holder of a HKAR 66 B1.1 or B2 aircraft maintenance engineers’ licence with appropriate type approval or equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction.
  • Proven work experience in the field of aircraft defect troubleshooting with strong analytical and problem solving skills and a demonstrated ability to rapidly assess information, consider options and arrive at the optimum operational decision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to function as part of a team. Proven capability to influence across internal and external stakeholders to assertively drive operational excellence.
  • Highly self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to drive change and continuous improvement.
  • Preferably a holder of a Hong Kong driving licence or equivalent overseas driving licence that is approved by the HKSAR government for direct issue of a Hong Kong driving licence.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
