Job description

Leads others in the development of standard test methods and processes and applies advanced test technologies to create or improve test methods. Writes invention disclosures to protect Boeing Intellectual Property. Prepares R&D proposals and presents to internal management and external customer.

Applies emerging industry technologies to develop test procedures. Reviews critical procedures to identify potential problems and resolve issues. Develops innovative metrology design techniques, processes, methods, or concepts. Oversees the integration of new design and manufacturing techniques into test hardware/system designs. Analyzes processes for potential improvements and recommends associated changes.

Develops the standard policies for post-test activity. Resolves or oversees resolution of special test procedures. Works with the enterprise test and engineering group to standardize evaluation techniques. Formulates expectations for test data for new or unique tests. Trains and coaches others. Works under consultative direction.

Act as Lead F-22 Avionics Flight Test Engineer (FTE) for multiple aircraft at the F-22 Combined Test Force (CTF) at Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB), California. Responsibilities include test planning, coordinating and scheduling flight operations, communicating aircraft configuration requirements, conducting pre/post flight briefings and generating flight test cards and daily flight reports.

Act as Instructor/Evaluator Test Director/Test Conductor Lead Avionics FTE for the F-22 test team in daily flight test execution; the final authority for mission test decisions and test execution. Directs test safety planning and reviews, provides flight test engineering expertise to the F-22 CTF discipline engineering groups. Leads flight test procedure and process development and improvement.

Familiarity with Edwards AFB operational procedures is highly desired. Previous F-22 experience is also highly desired. Develops solutions to a variety of complex problems by interfacing and coordinating with internal and external military, civil service and contractor personnel.

Applicant must have excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to interface with multiple organizations including Integrated Product Team (IPT) system engineers, test pilots and management. Requires strong background in aircraft flight operations. Test conductor experience and excellent radio communication skills are required, prefer experience to be in the flight test environment. Good understanding of aircraft systems including avionics, flight controls, hydraulics, fuel and integrated vehicle management systems is required. Test Pilot School graduate is highly desired. Flying experience is a plus.

This position will require working flexible hours, overtime and occasional weekends when necessary to support ground and flight test missions.

Position requires a current active Secret security clearance and the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. Active F-22 SAP/SAR CLR/Projects program access is preferred but, if not currently active, must be able to obtain F-22 SAP/SAR CLR/Projects program access. If, at any time, the applicant loses their security clearance, this will be grounds for dismissal.

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
  • Must possess a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, overtime and occasional weekends when necessary

  • Previous Test Director Experience in Flight test environment
  • Preferred TPS Grad
  • Engineering Degree
  • F-22 clearance SAP/JSF
  • Previous F-22 experience

Typical Education/Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 15 or more years' experience, Master's with 10 or more years' experience or PhD with 5 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
