The External Pilotposition primarily supports the Dugway flight acceptance testingoperations-activity as the "Safety Pilot" responsible for any and all relatedemergency actions that may occur during the launch, flight-mission and recoverystages of the operation for assets under test insuring safe recovery if or whenrequired. Additionally, the External Pilot candidate will support variousdevelopmental flight testing operations as required, maintenance activities,ground support equipment emplace/displace activity, flight recordreconciliation, air vehicle inspections, pilot database management and otherrelated administrative functions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Will serve as on-site UAS AVO/MPO/SO/IO in support of Shadow Research and Development Flight Test. Additional duties will include emplacement/displacement/inspection and replenishment of associated ground equipment as well as proper notation of logbooks and flight records. Perform as a Subject Matter Expert for operator related issues. Evaluate, to standard, other Shadow operators during evaluation periods. Practice Contractor Procedures compliance. Daily Flight operations of Shadow 200 aircraft in support of R and D flight testing. Direct interface with PMO, DCMA and engineering. Supervise other pilots and External operators, perform applicable evaluations and pilot reviews. In depth knowledge of Contractor Procedures Flight and Ground operations. CRO duties for flight authorization with Government Flight Representatives. Work independently with minimal or no supervision. Responsible for data management and generation of reports supplied to customer and company executive leadership.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years' experience piloting high performance Radio Control (R/C) Aircraft (Aerobatics, Jet, and or Helicopter) required Manned aviation and or UAS operator experience is required. Previous experience flying complex R/C designs preferred.
QUALIFICATONS: Competition background (AMA/IMAC) preferred Must be able to safely and effectively perform the duties of an AVO/MPO/IO without supervision, including flight, ground equipment operator setup/maintenance logs and records. Ability to coordinate flight schedules, airspace, resources, frequency management, and other aspects of flight operations. FAA licenses or certificates such as private pilot, commercial pilot, and instrument rating preferred. Basic computer skills are required. Must communicate effectively with internal and external customers both verbally and in writing and possess strong leadership skills. Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
