Turkish Airlines plane emergency landing. A Turkish Airlines plane travelling to Milan made an emergency landing at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport after one of its engines caught fire, local media reported. Footage on NTV television showed flames and smoke coming around one of the plane's engines as firefighters rushed to meet the Airbus A320 as it touched down. The aircraft's passengers were evacuated safely: "All 97 passengers have been taken to the terminal with no health issues. The reason for the incident will become clear after the investigation," Turkish Airlines spokesman Ali Genc wrote on Twitter.
Ataturk International Airport, the country's main center, was provisionally closed due to the accident and planes were directed to Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side of the city. Earlier this month the same Turkish Airlines plane flying from Germany to Istanbul was compelled to make an emergency landing in Nuremberg after a crack was revealed in the cockpit window and the plane was given permission to fly out after the window was changed.
