aviation passenger experience: a new approach to comfort

aviation passenger experience: a new approach to comfort
A new philosophy is arising when it comes to passenger experience during a flight. In the past, the companies tried to make the passengers forget that they were in an airplane thanks to in-flight entertainment (IFE) system that has been installed in planes (movies, music...). The new approach developed is to make flying a bigger part of the experience, and to work on comfort during the flight.
It goes beyond installing better seats.

The most important change has to do with the windows: the aircrafts will have larger windows (30% bigger for the Boeing 787, and 20% bigger for the airbus A350). The view will be much more enjoyable, and the light inside the plane will be less artificial, which should improve the atmosphere as well.
They are also working on a nicer artificial lighting (light bulbs and LED)...

The focus was also emphasized on design.

The Boeing 787 also has a bigger and nicer entrance, with a higher ceiling. The passengers feel less constricted in those planes and could be more in touch with the flying experience.

They have also worked on improving the overhead bin. It opens more easely thanks to new hinges on the A380. They are working on making the bins bigger to accommodate the passengers needs (bigger hand luggage).

The muffling of the inside noise is another important issue that they have been working on. They want the sound to be absorbed instead of reflected, and they are working on quieting the sounds made by their inflight equipments (like the trolleys or the air conditioning).

All those changes are designed to lead to a nicer flight for the airlines passengers.

What do you think about this philosophy change? Isn't it nice that instead of trying to fit as many people as possible in a plane, they are focusing on the comfort level?

RE: aviation passenger experience: a new approach to comfort
Hello!
As usual Boeing and Airbus try to be better than the other, and at the end do more or less the same things ..

New airbus airplanes increased the feeling of space and light in a quieter environment as Boeing does...

To fit with their market they also rise the aisle for faster boarding: from 18-inch to 25-inch allowing turnaround times of 20 minutes or less ..

As you said I think it's a progress not to be focused just on profitability...

The problem is, Do Boeing or Airbus just think about the passengers' comfort or do they have an other idea?

Because, if passengers really appreciate this comfort they will tend to be faithful to one or the other company and as so increased their passengers' number.

So at the end, it means more profitability, no?

There is also another type of improvement that both Airbus and Boeing have been working on: the air quality and pressure in the cabin.
They have been working on the fuselage of the aircrafts and went from aluminium to carbonfibre airframes in order to be able to fly at a lower altitude.
They are also working on the moisture level in the passenger cabins so that the trips can be more comfortable for the passengers. The problem with adding humidifier is that the aircraft may run into corrosion problems, the other issue being the condensation.
