High fuel prices hindering many airlines... but not all of them
It seems like high fuel prices are causing problems all over the aviation world.
Direct Air has quite suddenly suspended its flights for 2 months (at least) and has abandoned its customers where ever they are. Facing the same issue, some companies (like Hong Kong's biggest airline, or Berlin Airline) seem to have lost a significant portion of profit because of these unforeseen spendings in fuel... Furthermore one should underline that those companies are lucky compared to those who are not profitable anymore. Some are even facing bankruptcy. While most companies struggle, others are hiring and upgrading planes : I am mainly thinking about Emirates. Emirates is currently upgrading its fleet serving German cities with Boeing 777-300 to boost capacity. And they are in the process of hiring pilots and flight crews all around the world. It can hardly be a coincidence... |
