Cardiff airport - Wales unhappy with the way the airport is run
Wales first minister has just heavily criticized the way the Cardiff airport was run, and doesn't want it to influence the way the tourists perceive the country. He went as far as to hope that the company that manages the airport (a spanish company called Abertis) would just sell it if they don't plan on doing major improvement.
Passenger numbers once again sinked last year (13% less), and it comes to a threatening 50% loss of passengers within 4 years. Specialists seem to link this to the loss of Bmibaby, but they managed to land a new airline in their portfolio (a spanish airline). The airport administrators are obviously trying to bring in new airlines because Cardiff should be a major airport considering the city it is serving... But they feel that things would be much more doable if the welsh government was backing them up, which is currently not the case. They have been very open about their hope for some partnership, with no success until now. Thus, the Cardiff airport remains for now a second rate airport. Has anyone been there? |
